Farewell NYC

Our last night in NYC.  Glen and I left tennis early.  We took the 6 down to the village and walked around a bit.  Found Famous Joes pizza, Regis said it was his favorite.  Yeah, it was good.  Then went next door for some yummy gelato.  A fun last night.  Glen and I have had a wonderful time for our 25th anniversary.  It couldn't have been better.  I am a very blessed woman.  Thanks Glen, I love you very much.

MiM

Mormon in Manhattan.  She was a delightful person.  Glen and I had lunch with her in Bloomingdale's "Forty Carrots." Yes, the froyo was awesome!  We had a great time visiting with MiM and getting to know her.  She writes such a fun blog and is just as fun in person.  Thanks MiM for taking the time to meet us.  We will keep in touch.  Let us know about West Side Story.  We hope you get it.
Thanks Brooke for setting this up, it was an enjoyable time.

Dreadlocked

Meet Antonio.  He was our waiter at the Open Club, where we eat dinner last night.  He had amazing dreads.  He gave us some pointers for Noah.  It has taken him 5 years to get them that long.  He was a nice young man, and I thought the girls might enjoy his cuteness.

Excuse me Ma'am

I heard these words yesterday at the Open. EXCUSE ME MA'AM, BUT YOU HAVE BEAUTIFUL EYES.  Now I'm not agreeing that I have beautiful eyes, that's not the point here.  The point is I felt great the rest of the day.  Look what a little compliment can do.  I need to do that more often to people I know and for that matter don't know.  It feels good!

THE OPEN

We are having a great time at the Open.  We've seen Blake win an exciting 5 setter Monday night.  It got over at 1am so I was a little nervous to ride the subway home.  No worries there, we could barely move, we were packed in like cattle.  Also saw Venus, Serena, Federer, Safin, and some others on the outer courts.  It is a fun exciting atmosphere, people doing cheers, yelling and just having a good time.

We Got Soul, But...

We got soul food that is.  We went to one of our favorite wards.  It is the Harlem 1st Ward.  It has almost doubled in size since we were there 18 months ago.  The people are amazing and hymn singing is so vibrant and alive, like they really mean what they are singing.  Truly felt the spirit there.  Well back to the soul food.  Right down the street from the church is the famous Sylvia's Restaurant.  Oh my GOODNESS!  Everyone should experience Waffles and Fried Chicken.  Maple syrup over the whole thing, picking up the chicken, sticky mess and oh sooo good!  Maybe one of the best meals I've ever had so enjoyable to eat.  Had a beautiful waitress, Tamisha, so friendly and helpful.
Then we saw the musical In The Heights.  It was great.  Fun up to date music, good story line and a nice upbeat feeling.  Wonderful!
From there we walked around Little Italy and had pasta for dinner.  (I am walking all over this city so I think I'm ok. I hope.)  Met a really nice couple at dinner from Long Island.  It is so great to meet new people and fined out about them.  There's alot of good people in this big world of ours.

Isn't She Lovely

Isn't she lovely? Lady Liberty that is.  Glen and I got up early and were on the first boat to the Statue of Liberty and then Ellis Island.  It was a beautiful visit there, perfect weather for a boat ride.  From there we stopped at Canal Street to buy some purses. I heard that you need to go into the back room to find the good stuff.  Started following a girl to a shop a few streets away and then into the back room.  Thank goodness Glen was with me.  It was a little freaky as she locked us in this room.  She really was not happy when I didn't like anything that she had.  Then we had to wait til it was all clear to come out.  Found another back room that felt safer and bought a few purses for the girls.  Canal street was an experience for us.  After Canal we went to Greenwich village for brunch, then back down to Spring Street (Little Italy) to find this rice pudding store.
During the evening we went to see Young Frankenstein,  not something we would recommend, just wasn't very good.  Time Square was crazy as ever.  It was a fun full day.

One of our favorite people

We went to dinner in Greenwich Village with Brittany Watson.  She is a fantastic girl. She looks darling and it was so great to visit with her.  She is in New York doing an internship.   We had alot of fun.

25 Wonderful Years!

On August 19 Glen and I were married 25 years.  It has been an amazing time together.  I really couldn't feel more blessed.  He is wonderful to me.
Now we are in New York celebrating.  We are hanging out in the city for the weekend and then going to the first week of the US Open Tennis.
Ok, so read on mormon in manhattan's blog about the shake shack and had to go.  Oh my goodness the line was 1 1/2 hours long.  No joke.  We took the B-line skipped the hamburgers and shakes and got an ice cream and a concrete (a really thick like shake) took only 15 minutes.  So hungry though, I got my self a Papaya dog.  Yeah it was yummy.

Glen and Noah's Excellent Summer Adventures

Glen and Noah have done some great things this summer. A boy and his dad what could be better. First there was surfing in Baja. They went with some good friends from Utah. Glen got in some good surfing and Noah spent time playing with the wild dogs and their pups that live and scavenge there.

Next stop for Glen and Noah was Havasupi, part of the Grand Canyon. They went with the boy scout troop in our ward. It was an 11 mile hike down to beautiful pools and waterfalls. I told Noah to be careful and don't jump off the cliffs. Well, that didn't work so good. He was the one showing everyone how to do it. Crazy boy!

Last stop, so far, was the South Fork of the Kings River in the Sierras. They went with some great friends in our neighborhood, and also Uncle Dennis. They said it was awesome to be together. It was a 3 mile hike down and a pretty steep hike out, but well worth it. Again there was some cliff jumping! What's a mom to do?
